AOPA Advocates for the Safe Operation of Unmanned Aircraft

For more than a decade, Kevin Camilli has served as CEO of Grey Aviation Advisors and Solutions, Inc. in Destin, Florida. In an effort to stay current on the latest developments in aviation, Kevin Camilli maintains a membership in the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA).

In addition to working to enhance general aviation knowledge and improve the skills of pilots, AOPA oversees a variety of advocacy activities that aim to increase air safety and protect the rights of aviation professionals. Currently, the organization is focused on several hot topics in aviation, including unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).

As part of its efforts to protect people and property while supporting those who operate unmanned aircraft, AOPA is developing a UAS education and self-certification program. The goal of the program is to ensure that all UAS operators have the knowledge and skills needed to use the technology safely and in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations.

AOPA is also working closely with the Federal Aviation Administration to promote community-based education efforts focused on hobby and recreational users of UAS. Additionally, the Association has signed on to support Know Before You Fly, a UAS educational campaign launched by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International and the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
